Sadly, actor Francisco San Martin died on Jan. 16 at the age of 39 per the L.A. coroner. Former Days of Our Lives co-star Camila Banus (ex-Gabi) responded to the tragic news in an Instagram Story. “Pepe, what can I say but I love you and rest in peace my friend,” she wrote about her TV brother. “My only witness that Paul sang Happy Birthday to me in the middle of a concert in Hollywood. You couldn’t believe it.
“Estas alla arriba y puedes conocer Pau [You are up there and you can meet Pau,]” she continued. “Eras una Estrella muy brillante [You were a very bright star.]. Love you mucho mucho mucho, wish I told you more.”
San Martin got his big break on DAYS originating the role of Dario Hernandez in 2011 as the character came to Salem to investigate the death of his sister, Arianna. Although he began a relationship with Melanie and Brady offered him a job at Titan, Dario discovered that his new job was in Argentina and had to say goodbye to Melanie. (When the character returned to the canvas in 2016, the role was recast with Jordi Vilasuso.)
The actor then returned to daytime in 2017 for a handful of episodes playing Mateo on The Bold & The Beautiful, an estate manager hired by Eric to manage the Forrester mansion. Sheila took one look at the hunk and paid him to seduce Quinn away from Eric so she could go after the guy herself. (It didn’t work!)
Viewers might also remember San Martin from his role as telenovela actor Fabian Regalo del Cielo on Jane the Virgin in 2017. He appeared in five episodes throughout season three of the CW series.
