BREAKING NEWS! The ‘General Hospital’ actor temporarily bid farewell to the audience because he had to have urgent surgery

Hallmark Channel host Cameron Mathison has announced that his recent cancer surgery went ‘very well.’

The TV personality revealed on September 10 that he has renal cell carcinoma, also known as kidney cancer.

He underwent partial nephrectomy surgery two days later, a challenging operation that requires doctors to remove a tumor while only removing a small part of the kidney.

After the surgery was completed, the former All My Children star broke the news that it went ‘very well.’

He took to Instagram last Friday to update fans with a photo of himself in the hospital bed, surrounded by his two kids, Leila, 13, and Lucas, 16.

‘The tumor is gone and I even got to keep 80% of my kidney,’ he wrote in the caption. He added: ‘We are all optimistic.’

Mathison shared the news of his health condition with his Instagram followers on September 10, letting them know that he received his kidney cancer diagnosis after some issues with his gut.

‘About a month ago, I had an MRI for some gut issues I’ve been having, and during that MRI they found a tumor on my right kidney,’ he wrote in the caption of a photo alongside his family.

‘It’s consistent with renal cell carcinoma … or kidney cancer,’ he continued.

He also said that the tumor may have been in his body for years, but the ‘healthy lifestyle’ that he maintained kept it from spreading.

‘The good news is that it hasn’t spread to any other organs. They say my healthy lifestyle and diet has no doubt helped keep it from growing and spreading to other areas, as doctors think it’s been growing in me for minimum 10 years.’

The Home & Family host has returned home to recover following ‘an eventful four days in the hospital.’

He took to Instagram again on Monday to thank his fans for their encouragement as well as plenty of ‘prayers, positive thoughts, flowers, cards, stuffed animals, food, love … and kidney beans.’
